10 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION IDEAS FOR PEOPLE IN THEIR 20'S THAT AREN'T COMPLETELY LAME.

Monday 14 August 2017

If it were up to me, I'd still be having fancy dress parties every year in a themed venue with plenty of jelly shots. As we pass our teenage years our friendship groups tend to get smaller and some people tend to avoid celebrating getting older, so big parties become a thing of the past. I however still think birthdays are great and it's the one day of the year everybody makes you feel special and people generally tend to do whatever the hell you want to do. So here are 10 birthday ideas that aren't totally lame.

birthday ideas

1. Go to a water/theme park.

After much deliberation on how I was going to spend my 23rd birthday, I decided to go back to basics and just have a fun day out at a water park (and a dinner and a night out), it might sound like something you'd do when you were 12 but if your friends are tight then it's bound to be a hilarious day out.

2. Host a dinner party.

If there's not a posh bone in your body, then this is your chance to show your pals how great you are at quiche lorraine and pavlova. If you want a bit more entertainment give everyone a placement card with a dare/strange conversation topic to have to bring up during the night secretly. Get creative!

3. Throw a beach party.

Grab some Malibu, coconuts and Bob Marley (and friends) and cross skinny dipping off your list, granted it's not illegal in your country.

4. Wine tasting.

Now that you're an adult it's mandatory to know your Shiraz's from your Merlot's. Invite some guests and have them all bring a bottle, then cover the label and number the bottles and have everyone guess what grape the wine has come from. Throw in some cheese for extra class.

5. Afternoon tea.

I've actually got two super cute teapots I've been dying to use but alas I don't have enough guests to use them for. Get a cake rack and pack it with finger sandwiches, scones and macarons. Recommended for the winter months because nobody wants to be indoors in Gibraltar at 5pm in the summer.

6. Explore your adventurous side.

Sorry guys I haven't branched into sex and relationships yet, so we're talking about getting your hiking boots on and going on a nice and tiring 4 hour hike, but hey the view is mostly worth it! If being a sweaty mess on your birthday isn't your thing, go camping or try paint balling or something which even the 'flohas' can enjoy.

7. Get away

This has been my plan for 3 years seeing as my birthday falls on a bank holiday, but something always goes wrong. So if you know you have some unreliable friends around you either go by yourself or make someone commit like a year in advance and actually have them give you the money.

8. Throw it back

Remake one of your birthday parties from your younger years, which in my case was always pizza at my house, go to the fair and then have a sleepover. It might not be the most exciting thing to do but if you have the same friendship group it'll bring back fun memories and conversations.

9. Have a themed pub crawl

These days it's all about the pub golf crawls, but if you've always dreamed of having a group of Jon Snows, Daenerys Targaryens and Hodors walking down the street then this is the one day of the year your friends will endure the embarrassment for you.

10. If all else fails, just have a messy night out.

You can't go wrong with a couple of friends, a bottle of Smirnoff and some jelly shots. If you need some inspiration for making pres 10X as fun as usual here's my list of drinking games to liven up any party.

How did you celebrate your last birthday? Or what do you have planned for your next one?
