JULY FAVOURITES AND HIGHLIGHTS.

Tuesday 1 August 2017

Now that July is over it means we're almost through with summer, but it also means that my birthday is this month! (birthday wish list to follow soon). July was a fun month, I worked a bit which meant some pocket money to fund all the day parties I've been to this month! I've got a couple of exciting things coming up this August, but we shall leave that for another post. Here are my July favourites and highlights!

WHAT I'VE USED

This month I've been trying to sway from my standard naked palette 3 every day look and try out different things. I've been loving the Morphe 35N palette because the colours are relatively 'safe' for me to work with and aren't too in your face. I'm still pretty much sticking to the pinks and purples but slowly learning to experiment more! The shades are pretty pigmented and the palette is so affordable - shame they're out of stock most of the time! You can see from the photo which colours have been more popular than others aha!

My best friend bought me the spectrum clam set a few months ago and I've been so obsessed with it since. As mentioned before I used to apply my eyeshadow with my finger and a maximum of one make-up brush, so it's been exciting to try different techniques and I will never be applying my foundation with my hands ever again.

WHAT I READ

If you read my pool-side essentials post then you already know I challenged myself into reading one of Ernest Hemingway's books. I remember seeing A Farewell To Arms quoted a lot on Tumblr and so wanted to give it a read, and secondly I want to get into the habit of reading more classics this year. The writing was definitely a lot smaller than I was used to and there were so many characters within the first 100 pages that it got a bit confusing - didn't help they were mostly Italian names/surnames. I gave it a 3/5 on good reads because I found it an interesting read but found the love story to be a tad too cheesy for my liking, then again it was written like 70 years ago. I'd love to hear what you guys have been reading/your recommendations!

WHAT I WATCHED

Game of Thrones duh! I can't believe there's only 5 episodes left until we have to wait a whole other year for the last 7 episodes. For those of you who haven't watched it, the first season is a whole lot of history thrown at you but I swear it gets better (and gorier, and sexier) at Season 2, just don't get attached to any characters because there's a high chance of them being beheaded/having their skull crushed/arrowed through the heart.

Now that Love Island has finished I feel like I can finally rejoin movie nights with my family. I keep an updated list on my blog of every movie I watch so if you guys are ever stuck for choice, then bookmark that! My favourite movie this month has to be Spider-Man: Homecoming. I watched it with my 7 year old brother at the cinema and you don't realise how much swearing is actually in these marvel movies until you get a kid pointing it out every single time. I thought it was great and that Tom Holland made a great Peter Parker.

WHAT I LISTENED TO

I have been waiting for this album for what feels like forever, I've probably listened to Lana Del Rey's Lust for Life album every day since it's release. I first heard it on the bus on the way to Tarifa and at first I didn't think any of the songs particularly stood out to me, apart from Tomorrow Never Came which you need to go and listen to now. After taking a proper listen now it's grown on me a lot and this album is a lot less 'depressing' than her previous albums and seems more hopeful. Born To Die was obviously her most mainstream record but in this one she's collaborated with several artists and hip-hop vibes going on thanks to ASAP Rocky.

Favourite Tracks: Cherry, Lust for Life, Groupie Love, Tomorrow Never Came, Beautiful People Beautiful Problems.

WHAT I DID

  • I got a job! I feel very lucky to have landed a full-time job 2 months after finishing university as I expected it to take a lot longer. I'll be starting next week and I'm looking forward to getting back into a routine and finally having some dollah to play with.
  • I danced 50,000 steps at the Colour Festival and Dazed and Confused. If you follow me on Instagram you can probably see I'm a big fan of day parties. Gibraltar is great when it comes to providing summer entertainment so I'm trying to make the most of it before hibernating for summer. Professor Green and Sigma were both awesome and I'm very much looking forward to the Electronic Festival this weekend to bust some moves to Jax Jones.
  • I had a relaxing few days at my caravan in Tarifa, Spain. Some of my family had come over from New Zealand so it was nice to have the whole clan together as we all have caravans there. It was nice to get away from technology for a while and just enjoy the beach and the hippy lifestyle.
