10 MOVIES TO WATCH THIS HALLOWEEN (OR EVERY NIGHT LEADING UP TO IT).

Thursday 19 October 2017

So there's just over a week left until my favourite holiday of the year, which means I get to make everyone watch my favourite movie genre this month too. Even though my movie list would suggest I only watch thrillers, I do love a good jumpy horror. Whether you're spending your halloween dressed up as a sexy cat, or hiding behind your pillow watching films whilst ignoring trick or treaters here is my list of 10 'horror' movies to suit the occasion.

1. Silence of The Lambs

I only watched this for the first time last year, I was shocked to find out the movie actually involved no lambs. I thought this movie was great, the main girls voice is irritating AF but Anthony Hopkin's portrayal of Hannibal Lector is spine tingling.

Plot: A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims.

2. Get Out

I saw this film in the cinema and thought this movie had a unique plot, and not just 'something terrible happens in a house'.

Plot: It's time for a young African American to meet with his white girlfriend's parents for a weekend in their secluded estate in the woods, but before long, the friendly and polite ambience will give way to a nightmare.

3. IT

I've never seen the original so I can't vouch for which one is better, but the new one was jumpy, creepy and funny at times. Also, take a second to google what Bill Skasgard (Pennywise) looks like in real life.

Plot: A group of bullied kids band together when a shapeshifting demon, taking the appearance of a clown, begins hunting children.

4. Psycho

A black and white must watch. I've got 3 episodes of Bates Motel left to watch and then planning on watching Psycho again with my mum to tie it all in. It's classic horror at its best.

Plot: A Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother.

5. The Rocky Horror Picture Show

I've never seen this myself but I'm adding it to this list to remind me to watch it too. There must be a reason why the shows are also so popular!

Plot: A newly engaged couple have a breakdown in an isolated area and must pay a call to the bizarre residence of Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

6. The Craft

If you're having a movie night with your gal pals, then what better film to pick than one about witches. It's basically Mean Girls with more powers.

Plot: A newcomer to a Catholic prep high school falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft and they all soon conjure up various spells and curses against those who even slightly anger them.

7. Scary Movie 2

We can probably all agree this was the best one out of all of them. Unless this isn't the one where 'whatsaaapp' came from.

Plot: Four teens are tricked by their professor into visiting a haunted house for a school project.

8. Gerald's Game

This Stephen King movie adaptation is a little bit, strange and confusing but keeps you interested. It's just been added to Netflix so makes for easy watching.

Plot: While trying to spice up their marriage in their remote lake house, Jessie must fight to survive when her husband dies unexpectedly, leaving her handcuffed to their bed frame.

9. Halloween

I guess it makes sense to watch this for obvious reasons.

Plot: Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield to kill again.

10. Halloweentown

If you've known me in the last 10 years you'll know this was my all time favourite Halloween movie growing up (sorry Hocus Pocus). Don't be fooled by it being a Disney film, that theatre scene scared the crap out of me and still does. I always thought the grandkids reminded me of me, my sister and my cousins and Aggie seemed like such a Gibraltarian grandmother. RIP Debbie Reynolds.

Plot: After learning she is a witch, a girl helps save a town full of other supernatural creatures.

Which one of these movies will you be watching with a bag of popcorn? I'd love to hear what some of your favourite Halloween films are!
