NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS WE CAN ALL MAKE IN 2018 (AND ACTUALLY KEEP).

Welcome to the first blog post of 2018! Usually this post, along with a couple of more round ups would have been published last week, but if you follow me on social media you might have seen I spent the last few days of 2017 in Barcelona. The beginning of the year is all about new beginnings right? I'm not going to preach about 'new year, new you' because honestly unless you're a piece of s*** then you shouldn't really have to change everything about you when a new year comes along, but there are some small changes we can all make to be the best versions of ourselves in general.  After reading my 2017 resolutions I pretty much stuck to 80% of them, here are some 2018 resolutions we can all try and stick to in 2018.

1. Take care of the planet. 


I'm not saying you should go around picking up other people's rubbish, but make more of a conscious effort to reduce your carbon footprint and generally be more environmentally friendly. I don't drive so you know, there's me justifying not learning to drive yet. Reducing water usage, recycling and reducing your meat and dairy intake all contribute to this. I'm actually taking part in 'veganuary' so I'll be doing my part there for at least a month - more to come on this later in January!

2. Be more supportive. 


Let 2018 be the year we (especially women) support and help each other grow instead of tearing each other down and undermining people. Make an effort to support your friends and strangers who are trying to promote their businesses, listen to other peoples ideas, go watch your boyfriends football game etc! Also girls who gym, it's not an Olympic competition, smile a bit instead of trying to see who looks the best in their Gymshark leggings and who can do more squats. 

3. More talking, less typing. 


I recently downloaded an app that tells you how many times you look at your phone and well, it's kind of surprising. Bearing in mind that I have to be on social media a lot for my blog, I am trying to make a conscious effort to keep my phone in my bag when I've got company, and read before bed instead of scrolling through twitter, even if it does provide me with a few laughs before bed. 

4. Learn to say no.


2018 will be the year I stop being a push over. Learning to say no is not only empowering but will probably be better for your mental health in the long run. Lately more than ever we want to always seem busy and not leave a single bit of white paper in our diaries, but we need time to take care of ourselves too and not have to do things we don't enjoy or don't want to do. 

5. Use the creative side of your brain. 


I basically piled 'read more' 'dance more' 'move more' into one point, this is not only good for your stress levels but boosts your endorphins and all that biological jazz. I went to the Picasso museum whilst in Barcelona and told my friend I loved the idea of having a beach house and sitting on the balcony with my easel and paints with the wind blowing in my hair, even the thought of it made me feel calm and peaceful. 

6. Be more minimalist.


I like the idea of this so this year I'd like to put this more into practice. Living a minimalist lifestyle pretty much means 'doing more with less'. This could be done in your home, wallet and with most aspects of your life really. I have about 10 pairs of jeans in my wardrobe but only use around 3 - anyone else with me? I'm quite the hoarder so I want to try keeping things that I never use and only buy new things when my current ones run out (especially make-up). 

7. Live within your means.


I feel like the main reason people fail at this is because of what they see on social media, but I think it's time we stop trying to keep up with the Kardashians. Just because Kim K or Justin Bieber drink 8 dollar water doesn't mean you need to as well. Try and plan monthly how much money you actually have to spend on things and try and focus on the things you do have, and not the things you don't. 


8. Be less of an asshole. 


Last but not least, take a second to look in the mirror and ask yourselves, what makes me an asshole? We all have our flaws and that's ok, but sometimes we can all make a bit more of a conscious effort to hold things in that might offend someone or do more. For example, I have quite a short fuse when at home (there's only so many of my lipsticks my sister can steal before I snap) so I will try and be more zen or say things calmly. If you never offer to make tea in the office do it just once, if you never hold the door for people, do it man.
