10 MOVIES ABOUT LOVE TO KEEP YOU COMPANY THIS VALENTINE'S DAY.

Tuesday 7 February 2017

I've always been a sucker for romantic movies, not as much as for psychological thrillers but I pretty much know the script to The Notebook off by heart. I guess you could say I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic but I've never been too bothered with Valentine's Day or everything it represents. I'll probably be spending mine with the girls eating take-aways and watching 50 Shades Darker. For all of you single folks who want to spend the day watching soppy love stories, or if you're in a relationship and this is the only day you can get your S/O to watch a chick flick, then here's a list for you!

THE NOTEBOOK

I could fill up this blog post solely with Nicholas Sparks novels turned movies, but we'll save that for another time. This has to be one of my favourite movies ever, and as cliche as it is I love the storyline and anything to do with people falling in love before tinder and online dating became a thing. I distinctively remember me and Nicole going to see a special screening of this on Valentine's Day a few years ago and then the film glitched half way through so it didn't go to well.

Plot: A poor yet passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman, giving her a sense of freedom, but they are soon separated because of their social differences.

ABOUT TIME

Also starring Rachel McAdams, I admittedly have only seen half of this movie but Zoe insisted I put it on the list as its her favourite romantic movie she's watched in a while. So you'll just have to take her word for it.

Plot: At the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. His decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think.

THE BEST OF ME

This comes a close second in the Nicholas Sparks adaptation favourites, this movie made me angry, feel a sense of nostalgia about young love and then cry of course.

Plot: A pair of former high school sweethearts reunite after many years when they return to visit their small hometown.

LOVE, ROSIE

If you've ever been in love with your best friend, then this movie is for you. I mean if everyone's friend looked like Sam Clafflin I'd be following him to New York too.

Plot: Rosie and Alex have been best friends since they were 5, so they couldn't possibly be right for one another...or could they? When it comes to love, life and making the right choices, these two are their own worst enemies.

500 DAYS OF SUMMER

If you're read a couple of my movie posts then you've probably come accross this many a times, seeing as its up there with my favourite movies of all time. It's witty, it's sad, it's fun and most importantly it's a very real representation of what relationships are nowadays. The soundtrack is also bomb.

Plot: An offbeat romantic comedy about a woman who doesn't believe true love exists, and the young man who falls for her.

THE GREAT GATSBY

This movie was made all the better by Young and Beautiful constantly playing in the background, all though the ending is pretty tragic the love Jay had for that selfish ass Daisy is maaagical.

Plot: A writer and wall street trader, Nick, finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby.

CINDERELLA

The live-action version because the Disney original was never really that great. Plus the very handsome Robb Stark/Richard Madden stars as Prince Charming.

Plot: When her father unexpectedly passes away, young Ella finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother and her scheming step-sisters. Never one to give up hope, Ella's fortunes begin to change after meeting a dashing stranger.

 LA LA LAND

I put this on the list because it's been nominated for every award under the sun so you should probably just watch it and get it out of the way. I liked the story line but none of the songs were as catchy as Grease.

Plot: A jazz pianist falls for an aspiring actress in Los Angeles.

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

I shed a tear whilst reading the book and then cried a river at the cinema, which wasn't a pretty site since I was splitting one piece of tissue with my friend Georgina. This movie will hit you right in the feels.

Plot: Two teenage cancer patients begin a life-affirming journey to visit a reclusive author in Amsterdam.

ME BEFORE YOU

This movie was both hilarious and tear jerking. I love the chemistry between Emilia Clarke and Sam Clafflin and this is just one of those movies that have you smiling most of the way through and then reaching for the tissues.

Plot: A girl in a small town forms an unlikely bond with a recently-paralyzed man she's taking care of.

What are some of your favourite romantic movies of all time?
