KEEP MOVING, INDULGING YOUR WANDERLUST ON HOLIDAY*

Tuesday 16 May 2017

Not everyone thinks of their summer holiday as something that involves lying by a swimming pool for two weeks, with their paperback and bottle of sunscreen on hand. If you like to be a little more active through your summer holiday, read on and take in some of these tips and ideas!

Try Euro-Railing. First of all, you could consider going euro-railing, buying a train ticket and spending a couple of weeks going through European cities, staying in hostels and jumping on and off trains. A lot of people think of euro-railing as a strictly student experience but the truth is that absolutely anyone can do it and love it. Unless you have an absolutely unlimited amount of time, it’s important to make sure that you have some sort of a plan and that you know which cities and famous landmarks you absolutely do not want to miss out on. You should also make sure that you save plenty of money beforehand so that you don’t have to take too many risks about the hostels that you’re staying in at night and so that you can really try out and enjoy all the local cuisines.

What About Sailing? If you’ve always liked the idea of taking to the high seas but you aren’t fond of the idea of either becoming a pirate or taking a traditional cruise then a sailing holiday could be for you. Companies like The Big Sail will enable you to charter a yacht with your closest friends, meaning that you can customise your holiday yourself - for example, where exactly you want to go, how long you want it to take, where you’d like to stop off… For anyone with itchy feet, this is the perfect summer break.

Consider Island Hopping. If you want to lounge on the beach and take in crystal-clear oceans but you don’t want to spend your whole holiday in one place, then you might want to consider trying out island hopping. People have had particularly great experiences trying this out in the Greek islands or on the islands off the coast of Thailand, and it’s a particularly good idea because each island will have its own culture, cuisine and customs, meaning that you’ll be able to pack a lot of experiences into one trip while still feeling as though you’re exploring one country in depth.

Hire A Car And Take A Road Trip. Finally, if you want to really get away from everything, there’s nothing better than a road trip to enable you to do so. If you don’t mind grey skies, you could travel around the Scottish highlands and admire the rocky coasts, gorgeous beaches and scenic mountains up there - but if you’re more into the idea of blue skies and endless horizons, you could always go for a more traditional road trip across the US. Route 66 is one of the most iconic road trips in the world and will enable you to see a lot of the ‘real’ America - but you could always take a trip across the south to take in New Orleans and try some authentic Southern cooking.
