FEBRUARY FAVOURITES & HIGHLIGHTS.

Sunday 4 March 2018

This post is slightly overdue, but here I am to tell you guys what movies, make-up, music, shows and things I've been obsessing with over February. I sometimes don't manage to do these posts every month, but I like them because they're a bit more personal and allows me to reflect back on what I was digging at a certain time in the year. If you follow me on Twitter then a few of these are probably obvious choices, because when I like something I don't hold back. Here are my February lifestyle and beauty favourites.

Beauty

Since I am trying to save money and cut my spendings, sadly my beauty and clothing splurges need to take a backseat. So I'm going to pick one or two items to post here every month and make sure I do my research first to see if a product is actually going to be worth buying. I'd only heard of Juvia's Place recently, and when my sister told me she wanted one for her birthday I thought I'd treat myself to one of the more neutral palettes. I opted for the Juvia's Place Nubian Palette because I knew I could work with all these colours. The blues and greens in some of the other sets still intimidate me a bit.

What I like about this is that it's not too bulky and the colours work for daytime and for going out on the town. So it's the only eyeshadow palette I need to take with me when travelling. For some reason the photo below makes it seem like there's purples in there - but they're made up of a mix of 8 shimmering and 4 matte coppers, browns and nudes. The palette is very similar to the Naked Heat in my opinion, and I guess with that you get more tones but in smaller quantities. I feel like this is quite a versatile palette that is suitable for all skin tones and is perfect for beginners or MUAs because it can work with so many looks and it also means you can pair it with any lipstick you fancy - yay!

Film & TV

I spend 25% of my time in Gibraltar at Leisure Cinemas, because frankly there isn't much else to do during this time when it's rainy and quiet outside. My friends know I have a movie rating list on my blog so after any movie is over they always turn to me and ask "What's the line/score going to be on this one?". Without a doubt the best movie of the month for me was Black Panther, obviously. I hadn't even seen the trailer for this but Marvel movies rarely disappoint so I was hoping for a good story line. Firstly the casting was perfect - Michael B. Jordan could have just stood their with his evil smirk for the whole film and I would have been happy, not to mention there was a lot of females kicking ass. I think Letitia Wright was great and funnily enough I'd seen her in Black Mirror the night before. I love that the story wasn't a simple 'beat the villian' plot and was a lot more complex than that, and also shed a light to Africa in a different perspective and allowed them to tell their story. There was also the final instalment of 50 Shades (Freed) which I feel like could have gone for another 30 minutes as the end was all a bit rushed. I found it was better than the first but not as great as the second.

I seem to be lacking the concentration span to watch long tv series, so I've been watching The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt on Netflix because it kept staring at me on the homepage. The theme song is hella catchy, and funny enough to keep me entertained for 20 minutes. I also started watching The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel which isn't neither laugh out loud funny or leaves you wanting more at the end of each episode. It is however set in 50's Upper East Side New York, so basically the life I wish I had lived. It centres around Midge, a housewife who has a beautiful house, 2 kids and the perfect husband, until he randomly leaves her.

Music

I've been trying to stay up to date with new releases so I've been listening to Spotify's 'New Music Friday' playlist when I go do errands and adding the ones I fancy to my 2018 playlist. As usual, I end up obsessing over the same 5 songs until I'm sick of them. Kendrick Lamar's album for Black Panther is great - All The Stars and Pray For Me are divine. Sativa by Jhene Aiko makes you want to do a sexy dancy in your mirror with the lights dimmed, and so does James Bay's Wild Love. I also have to give a special mention to my boys 5SOS, who are back on the scene with their new song Want You Back. It's a song that grows on you the more you listen to it, but I'm excited for their new album and new sound.

Book Shelf

Now that I'm done with uni I'm more likely to reach my GoodReads challenge of reading 24 books this year. I'm 3/24 at the moment, so I need to step it up a bit. I read The Couple Next Door and It Only Happens In The Movies in February, and out of the both I'd say I enjoyed the latter more. Most of the characters in this were fairly likeable and Audrey is very relatable and has the right idea about modern day romance. TCND was a thriller I'd seen in most book charts last year, and it was an alright read but it didn't leave me reading until 3am like I'm Travelling Alone did.

February Highlights

  • I paid off my £2000 student overdraft! Considering I started working in August I'm pretty proud of myself. The original plan was to have this out of the way by December 2017 but we all know life throws a lot of temptations at us that make saving money that little bit harder (ASOS sales). The worst part of this overdraft was that I can't even tell you what I spent it on, but doing an unpaid placement in London for 9 months was the main cause of it, and wanting to buy a new dress every time I went out in Central, oops.
  • I had a lovely Valentine's Day with my friends eating a 3 course meal at Pizza Express - I cannot rave enough about the Panna Cotta.
  • I reached 150,000 views on my blog, which reminds me I still need to do a giveaway on this.
  • We got a guinea pig called Ginger, although he's a bit of a scaredy cat but also makes me laugh because he looks like Gus Gus from Cinderella.
  • I treated my mum (and myself) to a massage and facial, something which neither of us do very often!

What did you get up to in February? What stuff were you digging?
