RECIPE: HOMEMADE MEATBALLS

Tuesday 22 March 2016

Admittedly, when buying the ingredients for these in Tesco, I was very tempted to just opt for the £2.50 ready made ones in the same isle and save myself the money and time. After seeing how they turned out I was glad I didn't because they were nice enough to rival my mum's ones! (bearing in mind it is her recipe). Here's a super easy and quick way to make home cooked meatballs in sauce!

Ingredients

500g minced meat (I opted for the 5% fat lean beef)
2 eggs
grated cheese
breadcrumbs (3 tbsp)
majoram (1/2 tbsp)
parsley
salt & pepper
1 onion
1 garlic clover
red/white wine
olive oil
beef oxo cube
gravy granules/bisto

Method

1. In a pot add some olive oil and place the garlic and onion to cook whilst you prepare the meatballs.

2. In a bowl mix together the meat, eggs, cheese, breadcrumbs, parsley & majoram making sure it's sticky enough that the balls will stick together. The amount of eggs you put in should be relative to the amount of breadcrumbs you add to keep the mixture working.

3. Roll into medium size balls with the palm of your hands, and once the onions have turned a golden brown slowly add in your meatballs making sure they are evenly spread out on the base of your pot.

4. After a minute add in a dash of red or white wine over the meatballs and some salt and pepper.

5. After this pour hot water over the meatballs so it's about 1/3 full and just covering the meatballs, this will make the sauce, leave to simmer for 25 minutes.

6. Once you see the meatballs have been cooked, add in a tablespoon of gravy granules/bistro to thicken the sauce.

7. Cut a meatball in half to make sure they've been cooked properly if not leave a little longer then enjoy!
