TURNING 24 | 24 REALISATIONS I'VE HAD OVER THE PAST YEAR.

Monday 27 August 2018

When I was younger, being born in August sucked. It meant everyone went off on their summer holidays so my school celebrations usually consisted of family tea parties with ham sandwiches.  In my teens it always meant being the last one to be allowed to do things, but alas now I'm kind of grateful because once you turn 21 getting older isn't as exciting. I turned 24 on Sunday, and woke up crying because I remembered I got my phone stolen the night before and went off on a rant on WHY DO BAD THINGS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME. Luckily I had 4 of my best friends gathered around me on the bed telling me to 'snap out of it G it's your birthday'. Putting all that behind me, here are 24 realisations I've had since my 23rd birthday last year.

1. Buying expensive things means it hits you even harder when you lose or break them (so spend more money on experiences).

2. You don't have to speak to someone everyday to prove your friendship, we're all busy and sleepy.

3. Ketchup is actually alright.

4. And so are olives.

5. There is no point trying to understand men because they don't make sense.

6. You're only as old as you feel, and I feel like I can't do two big nights out in a row anymore (cries).

7. If you can spend a week on holiday with someone and not get sick of them, then they're probably alright and you should keep them around.

8. You shouldn't have to fight to keep anyone in your life.

9. Mamma Mia 2 was a lot better than Mamma Mia 1.

10. You're not going to be everyone's cup of tea but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you (or vice versa).

11. When things go wrong just remember they usually make for the funniest stories when looking back (like missing our tour in Malta).

12. If it's not going to impact your life in a year from now, then you shouldn't spend any more time worrying about it.

13. There is no set timeline for when you should have accomplished things in life.

14. There's nothing wrong with going out every weekend, or with staying in and eating pizza instead.

15. You don't owe anyone an explanation about the decisions you make about your life.

16. You should call out people who spend more time on their phones at dinner than speaking to you/at the table.

17. I'd rather spend £450 on a flight to Japan than on a Gucci belt.

18. You don't get to choose whether you hurt someone or not.

19. People are going to gossip in their Whatsapp group chat whether you're volunteering in Africa, showing too much skin on Instagram or just posting selfies with your s/o - so you might as well have fun doing what you're doing anyway.

20. It's always a great idea to save some money each month because you never know when your phone is going to get stolen whilst you're in the queue for the toilet and have to spend £700 on another one (i'm not bitter about it I promise).

21. You might live in a boring town, but it's only as boring as the people you surround yourself with and what you do with your time.

22. Nothing is permanent, if you're not happy you have options (90% of the time).

23. Nobody is going to think about how embarrassing your dancing was last night in Dusk, so dance away.

24. Pineapple still definitely belongs on pizza.
