HOW I SPENT 3 DAYS IN NEW YORK CITY.
Thursday, 30 April 2015
So as many of you know (or if you don't), I just got back from spending a fun couple of days in the Big Apple! Any of you reading this who have visited the city can agree it is an overwhelming and beautiful city, and you're never short of something to do! I've tried to stay away from talking about the main attractions in this post, I'm sure you've all heard enough about the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and Times Square in plenty of songs and your friends holiday pictures! Instead I'm going to tell you all about some other areas/things we discovered that you may not have thought about visiting.
♡ ONE TO WATCH/READ: THE LONGEST RIDE ♡
Thursday, 16 April 2015
I'm sure most of you (females) have heard of Nicholas Sparks and have probably shed a few tears to his romantic soppy movies, if you don't know him by name he was the writer behind The Notebook, The Last Song, Dear John, A Walk to Remember - any idea yet?
Well anyway, after having watched all the movie adaptations of his books, I thought i'd give one of his books a try before it hit the big screen. It was what I expected, boy meets girl, they fall in love, things get complicated, same old same old. What I liked about this book and what Sparks tends to add to this is another storyline aside from the main one so you have a lot more going on than just your average love story.
The Longest Ride focuses on bull rider Luke Collins (played by the gorgeous Scott Eastwood - for those of you over 30's reading this, Clint Eastwood's son) and sorority girl Sophia (can't remember her surname but played by that chick that's in every movie lately Britt Robertson). They meet and face some difficulties and certain things get in the way that tests how strong their love really is.
The storyline that I found to be quite interesting was that of Ira and Ruth. In the book the chapters are divided into different POVs being Luke's, Sophia's and Ira's. He is in his 70s and most of his chapters revolve around flashbacks of when he and his wife were young, there's something about love in the 50's that seemed a lot more real and passionate than it does nowadays, the way he describes everything is so simple but yet so beautiful.
I literally finished this book 2 hours before the premier of the movie last Friday (I even took it to DisneyWorld so I could read in the queues and finish it on time) and was pretty weird how the ending of the book was the first thing that appeared in the movie. The way the book was set out meant they had to make a few changes to way the series of events occurred, but still stayed true to the storyline. I found myself tearing up several times when hearing Ira's letters to his wife amongst other events (trying to prevent spoilers here!!) but they were mostly happy tears!
In essence, if you want to see gorgeous cowboys, some saucy shower sex scenes, bull-riding, an array of beautiful art and want to feel even lonelier than you are now, then this one is for you!

CITY GUIDE: GIRL'S GETAWAY GUIDE TO MIAMI.
Wednesday, 8 April 2015
Hey guys! So last weekend we spontaneously booked a trip to Miami, because you can't spend 4 months in Florida and not visit the 305 right? We managed to get a pretty good hotel for a pretty good price, although we were promised a soundproof room which was not the case when we could hear the room next door singing in the shower (and myself).
♡ ONE TO WATCH: CINDERELLA ♡
Tuesday, 7 April 2015
So I had been meaning to go watch this since it first got released and finally got round to it on Friday! Being a big disney fan and Cinderella being one of the first and most classic Disney movies I ever watched I was pretty excited to see the live action version.
The cast stars the naturally beautiful Lily James (although her eyebrows are a distraction throughout the whole movie) and the gorgeous Richard Madden (for all of you Game of Thrones fans, Robb Stark!!) I found myself smiling every time he graced the screen.
The movie itself stayed true to the fairytale storyline with a modern twist to it, it didn't drag on so it kept you interested and I found it to be very enchanting. I get very into my movies and I tend to give a running commentary during them which some of my friends appreciate/hate going to the movies with me for. Some parts made me feel angry (that step-mother/sisters were in need of a b**** slap!), happy, sad, enchanted, lustful for prince charming, and you get the gist of it! Not to mention THAT DRESS, if only we could all have fairy god-mothers to whip us up an outfit every Friday night.
VERDICT: It's a movie for all ages as it is based on a classic and will have you feeling nostalgic and all happy inside. Maybe one to see with the girls depending on how much your boyfriend loves you!
♡ 10 THINGS I MISS ABOUT THE UK ♡
Wednesday, 25 March 2015
Despite the constant rain, all nighters doing work and 9am uni starts, being away from England for 4 months has made me appreciate the small things (and how much I actually love Nandos). So I have made a list of things that I basically can't wait to reunite with in 2 months!
1. Nandos
Judging by the intro to this you all knew this was going to be on here. Long seem the days where I'd be enjoying my weekly mango and lime chicken burger with cheese and pineapple and sweet mash on the side. On the plus side, thanks to my loyalty card I have a free quarter chicken waiting for me when I get back home! (For all of you non-british folk this is defiantly somewhere you need to look up and plan a trip to UK for!)
2. Asda
Yes, I know this is only a supermarket but it is also where me and my friends happen to spend most of our first two years of university at. Yes American super markets are probably twice as big but do you know how hard it is to find a can of tuna when there are like 40 varieties?! Asda is nice and simple, you either get Asda brand or John West if you haven't spent too much money on booze that week! I especially miss the relatively decent £1 pizzas, seems like I can't get anything decent here from Publix for less than $10
3. Comfort Foods
This is kind of a continuation from Asda, as I do miss snacking on their pork pies, cheese strings, winders and large range of (cadbury) chocolates. Not to mention their large range of pies and sausage rolls! (in moderation of course, i'm not sounding like the biggest health freak right now). Sunday roasts, shepherds pie, fish and chips by the beach, Pizza Express, Harvester's, the list goes on!
4. Nightlife
Americans know how to throw some good house parties, but the fact I'm still 20 means I can't really appreciate the nightlife over here to its fullest. I miss having a good 2 hours of pre drinks and being able to go out almost any night of the week and dancing like an idiot in the cheese room in Cameo (or Vinyl for all you freshers) and then finishing the night with a subway/take-away/4am call to Dominoes.
5. Topshop
Although the US has sooooo many shops that i've fallen in love with (PacSun, Bath&Body Works, VS/PINK) and I can probably buy 10 things in Forever 21 for the price of a dress in TopShop, I definitely miss this amongst River Island, New Look and Accessorize. But I am enjoying the fact that I can go back wearing clothes half my friends don't already own.
6. Uni
This is a bit of a strange one, by this I mean lectures being compulsory and only having to turn up to 10% of classes and still manage to pass the year. (if you're reading this mum i'm only writing this for entertainment purposes I swear). On the other hand our canteen always has some really good pasta!!
7. My double bed
I can't complain about my "college apartment" here in Orlando. It takes me two minutes to walk to class, I don't have to share a room with a roommate and we have our own pool to enjoy in between classes. However nothing beats being able to starfish on your bed or sleep in a diagonal position, not to mention how easy it is for friends to stay round spontaneously without having to find a blow up bed or sleep in an awkward top and tail position.
8. My Freedom
This makes me sound like I'm being held here against my will in the land of the free. America is HUGE, the only places I can get to when my car friends aren't available (or Ubering) is the supermarket or NYPD Pizza, and it's getting embarrassing that the people at Publix know me by first name and the waitress at NYPD knows my order. The transport system in Orlando isn't the best, so I miss just being able to leave my house and walk anywhere easily or having a bus stop at the foot of my doorstep.
9. Trains
By this I mean being able to jump on a train and be in a completely different city within half an hour (Southampton shopping is great ok and it has an iKea) and London in 2. There is so much I want to see in the US and it would probably take me a long time to see everywhere I want to see and be, whereas I think I've almost accomplished that in the UK!
10. MY FRIENDS!! (and family)
Considering I'm actually from Gibraltar which is where my family is I thought they couldn't really get mad at me for leaving them out on this one. My friends on the other hand would probably not read this unless they were mentioned in some way (which is why i left this for last mwaha). I miss having random movie nights in each others houses, going to quiz night every Tuesday and coming 3rd by default, spontaneous drunken nights at TOFS, going out to eat every other night even though we have no money, being a weirdo and it not being weird with them, nights dedicated to watching American Horror Story and Game of Thrones, playing lame pranks on my friends only I think are funny, and lastly travelling all around the UK to visit them all! (wow that was a very long sentence i'm sorry for my grammatical errors). I also get to meet my new nephew when I get back adding to the 100 things to look forward to!!
Life in Orlando has been so hectic that I haven't actually had time to miss home, but writing this list has definitely made me smile (cheesy I know) and I'm definitely looking forward to going home and seeing everyone, even though I will miss Florida and the people that have made my experience so far worth it!
18 PEOPLE ON WHAT LOSING THEIR VIRGINITY WAS LIKE.
Friday, 13 March 2015
If you're under 18, look away now because yes, we're talking about sex. It has always been something of a taboo subject and is something that is completely natural, but it is also something that people can rush into too quickly, or on the other hand place too much importance on and then get completely disappointed. So I managed to find 18 people who seemed very willing to share their experiences with me, this was definitely an interesting topic to read and write about and I hope it is somewhat enjoyable and insightful for you!
10 REALISATIONS I HAD WHILST LIVING IN ORLANDO.
Thursday, 5 March 2015
Hi Guys! So i've been living in Orlando for 2 months now and i'm constantly being asked "so how different is living here to UK?" and from my friends back home "omg have you drank out of red cups and made out with a quarterback under the bleaches yet?" and so on. So i've decided to compile a list of things i've learnt whilst being out here so far and how some things differ from home!
♡ FAB FIVE: MAC LIPSTICKS ♡
Wednesday, 18 February 2015
So this was requested by a few of you (those of you who are aware of my hoarding of lipsticks) and I tend to get asked a lot what shade of lipstick i'm wearing when i'm out and about, so after much consideration I narrowed it down to my 5 favourite MAC lipsticks!
(L-R VIVA GLAM 3, VELVET TEDDY, CRAVING, DARE YOU, REBEL)
I feel like the swatches here make the colours seem a lot more glossy than they actually are so along with each lipstick i've included a try on as well, note all lips are different so it might not look the same on you!
1. Craving
This one has to be my all time favourite and i've probably purchased it around 8 times because i wear it almost every single day! It's a colour that can be used both during the day and night and gives a pinky nudey tone that looks great with a bronzed or pink blush and a neutral eye. This lipstick is very similar to two other lipsticks I own captive and plumful but I feel like craving gives a more pigmented colour.
2. Velvet Teddy
So this lipstick was recommended to me by my friend Kirsty and after having tried it on at her house I felt like I needed to add this nude lipstick to my collection. I'm usually not a fan of nude's as I feel they wash me out but this one seems to complement most skin tones and also happens to be a favourite of Kendall Jenner! I team this lipstick with the MAC Subculture lip liner but also looks great with whirl.
3. Dare You
My sister actually bought me this for my 19th birthday and i've been in love with it ever since, it's also a bonus that it matches my hair colour! It is one of the "cremesheen" lipsticks so gives off a slightly glossy effect which goes great with the deep red colour. I usually leave this for the night or special occasions and team it with a gold/brown smokey eye or a dark purple smokey eye depending how drastic you want to make your look. This looks great with a slightly darker lip-liner such as Follow your heart or Cherry.
4. Rebel
This is definitely my go to purple lipstick and is great if you want to experiment with a new colour but don't want it to be too out there! It's a dark purple that looks great with a neutral or purple smokey eye and with golden highlighted cheeks. I team this one with the Current MAC lip-liner.
5. Viva Glam 3
I just recently bought this and was the first one I had bought from the viva glam collection. As mentioned I love my dark reds and this is great if you want to go for that gothic vampy look. It's a matte lipstick and looks pretty messy unless you use a lip liner with it and for that I would also recommend using Current in that it matches the shade. Similarly to Rebel this also looks good with a dark smokey eye or a neutral golden brown.
Hope this was useful to you guys and i'd love to hear what some of your favourite lipsticks are! If there's anything you'd like to request just drop me a message or leave a comment below!

♡ ONE TO WATCH: 50 SHADES OF GREY ♡
Sunday, 15 February 2015
So along with half of my Facebook friends I spent half of my Valentine's Day at the cinema watching this delight. I'd heard a lot of mixed reviews about this and had only managed to get through half of the first book but I never managed to get into it when everyone was hyping over it. I must say I was curious to see the movie and frankly didn't know what to expect (other than the obvious)
Let me first say how gorgeous is Jamie Dornan? At first I was a bit skeptical about him playing Mr Grey in that he seemed too "cute" and baby faced, but boy was I wrong. He managed to pull off sexy very well, that being said there were a few lines where we all felt like "did he really just say that? well that ruined everything"
From what i've heard it's not as heavy as the books and I guess it wouldn't be THAT embarrassing to watch with your mother, I mean from what i've heard every mother out there seems to have read this book. Some scenes seemed a bit irrelevant and dragged on a little, but hey with good eye candy who cares right?
My favourite thing about this movie HAS to be the soundtrack, definitely made the whole thing less cringe-worthy. Not to mention the running commentary from the people at the cinema, including one guy stating "she needs to shave her legs and pubes" which then resulted in his girlfriend slapping him and ranting on about how women can be natural if they want to be. Also mid sex-scene a father decided it was a good idea to bring his 3 young kids in, it took him a while to process they were in the wrong movie theatre and that the movie wasn't exactly appropriate for 12 year olds.
VERDICT: Watch it if you have some spare money and have nothing else to do that day, or if you don't wanna be excluded from conversations everywhere for the next couple of weeks.
